New Beginnings

My last post was in February, meaning there is a giant hole from before February vacation up to the end of the year. I honestly got into a routine that did not include doing much of anything that could be regarded as being productive - including this blog. My practices, my expectations, and my hopes slowly but surely faded. I knew that I would not be teaching at the school again next year, and I didn't have the structure or support that I needed for inspiration. Because of this I was not successful in a lot of ways. I need to make some serious changes as I prepare for the 2009-2010 school year and my transition into a new kind of school.

I will be working at a more structured public school in the same city I have been working for the past few years. I will be teaching 8th Grade US History in a 6-12 school setting. This past week I attended a conference to help prepare myself for the coming school year. Through the institute, I was able to get a basic understanding of the way my school was set up and the structures that supported student success and teacher productivity. While I will still be working with the same general students population, I am going to be surrounded by inspiring and professional educators who will help me get better at what I do. I want to succeed in my new role, but it is going to take a lot of time, effort, and positive change. I am confident that I can do it and that it will be rewarding.
